What does Minecraft error 0x803F8001 mean?

The full message is "Minecraft Launcher license is currently not available for your account (0X803F8001)", and it only shows on Windows through the Launcher. Minecraft uses several Microsoft services in the background for family safety and multiplayer, so every place you're signed in matters.

Mojang's official fix has three steps; try them in order.

Short answer

0x803F8001 means the Launcher can't find the game license on the signed-in account. Sign in to the Launcher, Microsoft Store and Xbox app with the same account that owns the game; if that fails, install the Launcher from the Store and run WSReset.

1. Is the same account signed in everywhere?

  1. Launcher: check the account in the top-left; pick the right one from View all accounts, or use Switch account.
  2. Microsoft Store: click the profile icon in the top-right; if it's the wrong account, Sign out and sign in with the account that owns the game.
  3. Xbox app: open it from the Start menu, check the account in the top-left and sign out and back in with the same account if needed.

2. Install the Launcher from the Microsoft Store

If the accounts are right, install the Minecraft Launcher straight from the Microsoft Store and sign in with the Microsoft account you play on. The installer from Minecraft.net also uses the Store sign-in on Windows, so the Store account matters.

3. Reset the Microsoft Store (WSReset)

Still getting the error? Press Windows + R together, type WSReset and press Enter. The Store cache clears and the Store reopens; then open the Launcher again.

FAQ

Do I need to buy the game again?
No. The error means the license is being checked on the wrong account; signing in with the account that owns the game in all three places is enough.
