What do Minecraft error codes mean?

Bedrock shows errors with a block or mob name instead of a number: Creeper, Drowned, Cauldron and so on. Mojang's official list has 61 named codes. The name itself doesn't tell you the cause; the table below shows what each code means and what to try first.

Minecraft Bedrock error codes summary card: codes like Drowned, Blaze and Sand are sign-in issues, Creeper, Kelp and Bat are connection issues, Breeze and Chain are a version gap
The codes fall into three main groups

Before you check the table, take a photo of the error screen: the code name and the number under it are what support asks for. The same code can show on any device; Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and mobile share the codes.

Short answer

Minecraft Bedrock shows errors with block and mob names. Mojang's list has 61 codes; most are sign-in or connection problems. For a sign-in code, sign out of your Microsoft account and back in; for a connection code, check the internet and restart.

What if my code isn't in the table?

Mojang's general steps, in order: sign out and restart the device, close non-Minecraft programs, check your internet, disable Add-Ons, free up storage, and make sure you're on the same version as your friend. On Windows you can also run the Xbox Gaming Services Repair Tool. If nothing works, back up your worlds and reinstall. The official version is the General Error Code Troubleshooting article.

Check for outages too: Mojang announces temporary outages on the PlayFab and Xbox Live status pages. If there's an outage, leave your settings alone and wait.

Do these codes appear in Java Edition?

No. Named codes belong to Bedrock (Windows, consoles, mobile). In Java, errors show as English messages in the Launcher and in game; for Launcher errors see the Minecraft won't start guide.
